Blob Fish
Scientific Name: Psychrolutes marcidus
Blob fish are usually shorter than 30 cm.
Blob fish were officially crowned as the ugliest animal in the world by the Ugly Animal Preservation Society. The blob fish has no muscle in order for it to be able to survive in the deep pressures of the Mariana Trench. Deep in the water the blob fish might look like a regular fish. But once it is taken out of the water it's skin sags causing it to have this "ugly" look.
Prey: Blob fish have never been spotted eating, but it is thought that they eat crabs, sea urchins, shellfish, and sea pens.
Predators: Blob fish have acid-like skin so any animal that eats them will die.

Adaptations:
In order to survive extreme pressure, the blob fish lack muscle and have a gelatinous body structure.

Population Growth:
The population of blob fish is not known regarding the Mariana trench. Although, some data is known for other places where the blob fish is found. In Australia many blob fish are accidentally being caught by deep sea fishers. Because of this the blob fish are now considered to be an endangered species.

Relationships:
Some research says that blob fish have no symbiotic relationships. But through further investigations I was able to find a picture of a blob fish with a parasitic copepod on its mouth. This lead me to conclusion that they might be involved in a parasitism relationship, but there is not enough data to determine if this is true or not.

Strategists:
Although the reproduction of blob fish is not known, there is some information saying that their nests include around 100,000 eggs. Most of these eggs don't survive, but the ones that do can live to be 130 years old. Blob fish are most likely r strategist due to the high amount of eggs that they lay.
